Hike for Hospice

The Hamilton and Cincinnati communities once again showed their support for compassionate end-of-life care by attending the Hike for Hospice events on September 21 and October 5, 2013.  For more than 30 years, families, friends, coworkers and neighbors have walked in memory of their loved ones, and now runners have join in on the fun in a competitive, chip-timed 5K run at the Cincinnati hike.  Combined, the two events raised more than $135,000 to benefit the missions of Hospice of Hamilton and Hospice of Cincinnati.

Hamilton Hike

The 15th annual Hike for Hospice of Hamilton on September 21 was indeed a memorable one.  During the warm-ups and seemingly out of nowhere a flash mob led by HOC’s Sarah Kreyling and Lynn Luke Huynh surprised and delighted the crowd.  The day started out rainy, but like magic and on cue, when the band Risky Business started playing “Here Comes the Sun,” the sun emerged from behind the clouds to send more than 300 hikers on their way through the streets of Hamilton.  As always, the Hamilton hike featured an auction with great gift baskets and an abundance of raffle prizes.  Upon their return, hikers and volunteers were treated to Krispy Kreme donuts, Rib City pulled pork, LaRosa’s pizza and the ever popular Flub’s ice cream.  Thank you to everyone who attended or volunteered to make this year’s event a huge success!

Cincinnati Hike

The 32nd annual Hike for Hospice of Cincinnati and 2nd annual 5K run on October 5 featured blue skies and sunny smiles supporting patients and families at the Blue Ash inpatient care center.  The crowd of over 1,000 hikers and runners plus 200+ volunteers was warmed by music from the Risky Business Band, awed by the singing of the national anthem by Eben Franckewitz, amazed by our flash mob and encouraged by the enthusiasm of master of ceremonies Local 12 anchor Cammy Dierking.  Sponsors for this year’s Cincinnati hike included Therapy Support, Inc., Taft Stettinius & Hollister, Claire B. Phillips, Wild Birds Unlimited, Nease Corporation and Fleet Feet.  Thank you to our great community as well as the wonderful Hospice of Cincinnati volunteers and staff for their support of another wonderful hike!
